Introduction
1 Foreword
The catalogue has been prepared by direct inspection of the several treatises cited. Printed repertories have also been examined; as regards the printing activity in Messina, use has been made of Achille Bonifacio, Gli Annali dei tipografi messinesi del Cinquecento, Vibo Valentia, 1977. In the description of the works the same criteria as those employed in the case of manuscripts have been adopted; a notable exception has been the consistent omission of both incipit and explicit. When referring to leaves, those marked by (*) are unnumbered.
