Moving in Pisa

Downtown is small and can be easily visited on foot. We do not suggest to use a car since the circulation in the city center is restricted and there are great difficulties to find a parking.
There are some buses where tickets must be bought before getting in.

Postcards

Postcards ("cartoline") can be bought in any souvenirs shop.
The postage stamps ("francobolli") are sold by post offices (see the map for the nearest post office) and by tobacco shops, but sometimes they can be bought in other shops.
The cost of the stamp for a small letter (less than 20g/0.71oz) goes from 0.65 (Europe) to 1.00 (Oceania).
The postcard can be mailed in a letter-box, which is red box as in the picture, or to the Post Office, or given to some of the local organizers who will be glad to mail it for you.

Tobacco and Cigarettes

Tobacco, cigarettes or the famous Toscani cigars can be bought at any tobacco shop ("tabacchino") whose signmark is a big "T".

Near to Pisa
There are many historical towns and beautiful places

Historical towns: Firenze (Florence) (by train 50', by car 1h00), Lucca (by train 20', by car 30'), Volterra (by car 1h), San Miniato

The sea
The nearest beach is Marina di Pisa (7km from the city center) reachable by car or bus.
More suggestive places are south of the town of Livorno: the reef of Quercianella and Castiglioncello are quite lonely and reachable by train.
A very trendy and crowded beach is the Versilia, in particular Viareggio reachable by train, and other sites like Lido di Camaiore and Forte dei Marmi, with many discos.
To fully understand the beauty of Italy, you must visit the Cinqueterre, reachable by train.

The mountains
Pisa is flat, the Monte Pisano is a group of nearby hills where you can make nice walks.
The nearest mountains are the Alpi Apuane, reachable by car in less than one hour. The mountains are not so high (maximum 1946 mt.) but they give the feeling of high mountains, being rocky and steep, moreover they overlook the see.

The countryside
June is not the best month to visit the country of the beautiful Tuscany. However if you go by car to Volterra or to the Valdera or to the Chianti hills, you would have some nice views.

General advices
June may be very hot in Pisa, please bring some protection against the sun and the warm.
